In this role, you will refine technical documentation, draft user-friendly summaries, and prepare digital-ready materials for public and statutory publication.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Review: Subedit and proofread complex scientific reports, statutory documents, and technical literature to ensure clarity, compliance, tone, and editorial standards.
Science Communication: Translate dense environmental science and earth science research into clear, engaging, and user-friendly materials for diverse audiences.
Content Creation: Write and edit fact sheets, summary briefs, and accessible resource guides based on technical findings.
Basic Illustration & Data Viz: Prepare clear visual aids, simple charts, and basic technical diagrams to complement written content.
Digital Publishing Readiness: Format and structure documents and web-friendly copy in readiness for web publication and digital dissemination.
Key Selection Criteria (Skills & Experience)
Essential
Scientific Literacy: Demonstrated understanding of scientific processes, environmental science, and/or earth sciences concepts.
Technical Editing: Proven track record of editing complex scientific reports, regulatory/statutory materials, and technical documentation.
Complex-to-Clear Translation: Strong ability to take dense, technical jargon and rewrite it into compelling, plain-language copy without compromising accuracy.
Digital & Visual Preparation: Experience preparing digital-ready text for web release and creating basic illustrations or visual aids to support complex ideas.
Position Details & Work Pattern
Contract Duration: 12 months.
Fractional Basis: 50% FTE (~20 hours/week average).
Flexibility: Hours will be allocated on a needs/project basis to match upcoming publication workflows and report deadlines.
It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team's objectives of ensuring service delivery exceeds expectations.
