project manager - precinct & place

As the Manager Precinct and Place, you'll help drive the Authority’s goals by shaping station, precinct, and place outcomes. You'll champion great design across all planning and design work for the Newcastle to Sydney High Speed Rail project and the broader national network.

In this role, you'll bring together planning activities, technical studies, and work packages covering station design, urban design, placemaking, land use, and development opportunities. You'll also lead the design excellence process while building strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Working with the Senior Manager Precinct and Place, you'll guide inputs across the Integrated Project Team, keep track of progress, and provide clear, practical advice to help shape project decisions.

Main responsibilities across the 4 key activities:

Newcastle to Sydney Precinct & Place

• Lead precinct and place work for the Newcastle to Sydney route, focusing on station and urban design, placemaking, and land use.
• Deliver our design excellence approach, including design reviews and Designing with Country.
• Build strong relationships with key government partners and provide input during interactive procurement.

National Network

• Guide strategic planning, land use, and development studies for future national stations and precincts.
• Provide clear, well-researched place and land use analysis to support advice and briefings.

Managing Advisers and Consultants

• Help draft briefs and manage design and place consultants day-to-day.
• Keep consultant schedules, deliverables, and reviews running smoothly while coordinating across property, commercial, and planning teams.

Program Coordination and Governance

• Oversee project plans, budgets, risks, and progress reports for assigned work.
• Work closely with the Integrated Project Team to align precinct planning with broader project goals.
• Prepare clear briefing papers, reports, and governance updates to support decision-making.

About you:

• A degree in urban planning, urban design, architecture, property, or a related field (postgrad studies are a plus!).
• Hands-on experience in precinct planning, urban design, or major project coordination working alongside multidisciplinary teams and government partners.
• Proven track record reviewing design plans and crafting clear reports, briefings, and stakeholder updates (transport or station precinct experience is a bonus).
• Strong project coordination and relationship-building skills.
• Good understanding of placemaking, urban design, and land use planning.
• Ability to turn complex technical info into clear, practical summaries for everyone.

Based in contemporary offices in North Sydney above the new metro station, a hybrid working arrangement is on offer.

As this role sits with a Federal government body you will need to be Australian citizen and return a clear national police check for eligibility.
