We are seeking an experienced Project Cost Estimator & Scheduler to join a Project Management Office (PMO) supporting major technology and innovation initiatives.
In this role, you will work closely with project delivery areas to build, validate, and align defensible cost models with integrated project schedules. Beyond delivery, a key component of this engagement involves structured capability building and knowledge transfer to upskill internal teams and embed long-term best practices.
Cost Estimating & Modeling: Develop, maintain, and update detailed capability cost models and costing tools (such as Capability Costing Tool) in alignment with government costing methodologies, approval processes, and governance frameworks.
Project Scheduling: Build and maintain integrated project schedules, ensuring they accurately capture scope, milestones, and dependencies while staying fully aligned with cost assumptions.
Assurance & Compliance: Conduct thorough assurance reviews of cost estimates and supporting documentation ahead of senior executive briefings, tracking and resolving any audit or compliance findings.
Knowledge Transfer & Mentoring: Execute a structured knowledge transfer plan by mentoring internal staff, running coaching sessions, and drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to build sustainable internal capability.
Market & Financial Analysis: Analyse market data and financial input to ensure cost breakdown structures meet high-fidelity standards.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
Life Cycle Costing Expertise: Proven experience in life-cycle cost estimation methods, cost breakdown structures, and risk/uncertainty analysis within large-scale government or defense environments.
Scheduling Proficiency: Strong technical expertise in project scheduling and aligning schedule dependencies with cost models.
Government Financial Frameworks: Strong familiarity with government budget processes, financial operational rules, and capability assurance standards.
Mentoring & Process Design: Experience in capability uplift, coaching, and developing clear SOPs or operational guidance for teams.
Clearance: Active NV1 Security Clearance.
Location: Based in or willing to work on-site in Fairbairn, ACT.
