We are currently partnering with Queensland Rail to source an exceptional Principal Systems Engineer for a key role working within the ETCS Alliance. You will join a dedicated team delivering complex, major rail system integrations across the network. Reporting to the Rail Engineering Systems Lead, you will provide expert systems engineering services, lead project-based technical packages, and ensure solutions are fit for purpose, safe, and commercially sound.
Key Responsibilities:
๐ฏ Technical Execution & Assurance: Provide expert systems engineering services throughout the project lifecycle, applying robust systems processes to complex rail infrastructure and operational environments.
๐ฏ Engineering Certification: Serve as a professional engineering authority to review and certify systems engineering works in compliance with statutory, safety, and regulatory standards.
๐ฏ Commercial & Delivery Focus: Work closely with project teams to complete deliverables against established KPIs, ensuring alignment with quality, budget, and safety expectations.
๐ฏ Stakeholder Collaboration: Translate technical requirements clearly to non-technical stakeholders, project managers, and suppliers.
๐ฏ Process Leadership: Demonstrate strong understanding of So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP) frameworks and systems assurance practices within major infrastructure.
What We Are Looking For:
๐ฏ Education & Accreditation: Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Electronic preferred, or general Engineering with equivalent technical depth).
๐ฏ Systems Engineering Foundations: Proven experience in systems engineering processes (requirements management, interfaces, V&V, systems architecture).
๐ฏ Industry Background: Strong preference for candidates with Operator, Supplier, or Major Infrastructure Delivery experience. Defense or complex systems backgrounds with actionable engineering experience will also be considered.
๐ฏ Communication Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication skillsโable to break down detail, explain technical directions, and drive alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
๐ฏ Domain Knowledge: Knowledge of rail systems (ETCS, Signalling, CBTC, or related rail technologies) is advantageous, but solid core engineering fundamentals are essential.
