legal & claims specialist – consumer disputes (in-house)

About the Role A major global consumer tech brand seeks a process-driven Legal & Claims Specialist to join their in-house legal team in Parramatta.
Ideal for a local legal candidate or an overseas-qualified lawyer established in Sydney, this role sits at the operational center of consumer dispute resolution, risk analysis, and regulatory compliance.
You will manage escalated consumer matters, tribunal proceedings, and product liability claims across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Tribunal & Regulatory Advocacy: Prepare evidence and formal responses for tribunal matters (NCAT / Fair Trading) and consumer regulator escalations (ACCC).

• Defect & Liability Claims Management: Assess product defect claims, property damage incidents, and warranty disputes under Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

• Evidence & Risk Analysis: Evaluate technical service reports and customer history to make settlement or defense decisions.

• Legal Administration: Maintain case logs and support senior legal counsel on risk mitigation.

What We Are Looking For

• Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent overseas legal degree. (No practicing certificate required).

• Work Rights: Full, unrestricted working rights in Australia (Citizen, Permanent residency).

• Experience: Background as a Paralegal, Legal Officer, Claims Officer, or Compliance Specialist handling disputes or insurance claims.

• Open To: Local law grads/administrators OR common-law trained overseas lawyers with some years of local Australian experience.
