Are you an experienced plant support operator looking for your next mining opportunity? We are seeking a reliable Service Cart Operator / Serviceman to join the team in the Northern Territory. This essential role keeps our site moving by refuelling and servicing heavy earthmoving machinery across active civil and mining projects.
Role Summary
As a Service Cart Operator, you will operate a service vehicle equipped with air-suspension seats to access active machinery across the mine site. You will be responsible for field refuelling and fluid top-ups for heavy mobile equipment—including diggers, dozers, moxies (articulated haul trucks), and stationary generators. Beyond refuelling, you will provide vital ground support to plant operators by monitoring equipment condition, checking fluid levels, and identifying minor mechanical repairs to minimise site downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Mobile Plant Refuelling: Maneuver service trucks across active mining areas to refuel and top up oils in excavators/diggers, dozers, moxies, and generators up to 60 times per shift.
- Machinery Maintenance Checks: Perform routine fluid checks, inspect equipment for minor defects or repair requirements, and report maintenance issues to site supervisors.
- Operator & Field Support: Work collaboratively with plant operators to ensure equipment remains operational and efficient throughout the shift.
- Fluid Decanting & Handling: Safely decant oils and fuels into vessels (up to 12 kg) and carry fuel nozzles (up to 8 kg) to access fill points ranging from knee to overhead height.
- Hose & Equipment Operation: Pull recoil hoses over uneven ground and low-light terrain, applying hose clamps securely to machinery access points.
- Vehicle & Site Maintenance: Conduct daily vehicle pre-start checks, complete required shift paperwork, and maintain service vehicle cleanliness through hosing and high-pressure washing.
- Safety & Hazard Mitigation: Maintain continuous visual scanning in active mining environments to safely navigate near operating heavy machinery.
Position Requirements
- Driver's Licence: Current Heavy Rigid (HR) driver's licence is mandatory.
- Dangerous Goods (Desirable): A Dangerous Goods (DG) licence or verified experience in bulk fuel handling is highly advantageous.
- Industry Experience: Demonstrated background in a mining, civil earthworks, or heavy industrial setting operating service trucks or mobile equipment.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Basic mechanical knowledge to identify minor machinery faults and assist with routine maintenance checks.
- Physical Capability: Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including climbing cab ladders pulling hoses, and lifting/carrying containers up to 15 kg.
- Safety Focus: High level of concentration and commitment to zero-harm safety standards in a safety-critical mining environment.
- Medical Fitness: Ability to clear a comprehensive Pre-Employment Medical (PEM), including Drug & Alcohol Screen (DAS), Lead & Crystalline Silica health surveillance, audiogram, and Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE).
What We Offer
- Generous Remuneration: Competitive hourly pay rate with superannuation paid on all hours worked.
- Travel & Accommodation: Flights provided from Darwin to site, with high-quality camp accommodation and full catering supplied at no cost.
- Modern Equipment: Drive modern, well-maintained service trucks designed for operator comfort with air conditioning and air suspension seating.
- Ongoing Work: Opportunities for stable, long-term employment on key mining infrastructure projects.
