Do you love an overnight shift or early morning to get your work done before everyone gets going? We are seeking a reliable, safety-focused HR Driver / Waste Labourer to join our operational team for a local council in Burwood.
This is a multi-skilled casual role primarily embedded in the Waste Operations Team, with flexibility to support the Street Sweeping Team as operational needs require. If you are an experienced HR operator who enjoys diverse daily tasks, early finishes, and strong earnings potential, this role is for you.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Waste Operations Shift (Main Focus):
Operating a 2-man rear loader compactor truck.
Conducting public litter bin collections followed by hard waste collections across the municipal area.
Working collaboratively with your offsider to maintain efficient, safe collection routes.
Sweeper Operations Shift (As Needed):
Driving and operating mechanical street sweeper trucks across.
Performing street cleaning, sweeping, and blowing duties to keep local precincts spotless.
General Maintenance: Conducting daily vehicle pre-start checks and ensuring fleet cleanliness and safety compliance.
Shift Structure & Hours
This role requires availability for early morning starts and flexible operational hours:
Waste Shifts: Early starts (e.g., ~12:30 AM starts) attracting high Night Shift Penalty Rates (~$52.00+/hr).
Sweeper Shifts: Early morning starts (e.g., ~3:00 AM starts) attracting Early Start Overtime Rates for pre-4:00 AM hours.
Weekend Work: Short 4-hour weekend shifts as required (paid at applicable weekend penalty rates).
What You Need to Succeed
License: Current Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver's License (unrestricted preferred).
Experience: Prior experience operating Rear Loader Waste Trucks or Street Sweeper Trucks is highly preferred.
Flexibility: Willingness to work early morning/night rosters, including 4-hour weekend shifts.
Work Ethic: Strong physical fitness for hands-on waste collection duties, mechanical sympathy, and an uncompromised commitment to workplace health and safety.
