job details

A new and exciting opportunity has emerged with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (Brisbane 2032) for a Head of Transport (Planning & Operations).

If you're a talented professional looking for a career defining and high impact role, this is your chance.

Brisbane 2032 is not just planning a sporting event - they’re shaping a lasting legacy for future generations. Our Vision for Brisbane 2032 is

...
  • Believe: We believe in the power of sport and the Australian spirit. Together, they unlock our limitless potential, grit, and heart to go further than we ever imagined.
  • Belong: Everyone is welcome at our Games. Every person is celebrated, creating a playing field that’s fair, fun, and full of connection!
  • Become: This is our moment. Our move. Together, we’ll harness the magic of the Games to become stronger and step boldly into an exciting new era.

As an ambitious and inclusive organisation - Brisbane 2032 offers a rare opportunity to contribute to the world's largest sporting event, the world's largest multicultural event, and the world's largest event for people with disability. It is a chance to showcase to the world what Australia has to offer. It is also a chance to celebrate the world’s oldest continuing living culture, Australia’s First Nations peoples, and to promote and further the cause of accessibility and opportunity for all. [Text Wrapping Break][Text Wrapping Break]As part of this application process, we encourage you to share your motivation to join the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We highly value diverse perspectives and invite you to share your lived experience if you are of First Nations heritage or a person living with disability.

About the Role

As the Head of Transport (Planning and Operations) for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, you will initially report to the Director of Venues before the reporting line transitions to the Director of Transport when that role is recruited. [Text Wrapping Break]In this pivotal senior leadership role, your immediate focus will be establishing the Transport Functional Area from the ground up. You will lead strategic and business planning to design the core operating model, policies, and procedures required for the safe, reliable, and efficient movement of athletes, officials, media, and the Games Family. By partnering closely with local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as internal functional areas, you will ensure these critical transport requirements are seamlessly embedded across all venue, village, security, and workforce planning.

As the Games approach, your focus will shift to the live operational delivery of these integrated strategies. At Games-time, you will lead a large, high-performing team to oversee on-the-ground transport operations, ensuring services are coordinated, accessible, highly resilient, and strictly aligned with Games requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning, integration and delivery of key projects within the Transport Functional Area (FA), ensuring that all Games Olympic and Paralympic Transport services are delivered in an efficient and successful manner.
  • Drive integrated transport planning across all transport functions, the IOC and IPC, ensuring alignment with Games requirements and delivery milestones.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with Games Delivery Partners, transport authorities, and government agencies, including the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Police Service, and local authorities, to support integrated transport planning, traffic management, security coordination, and operational delivery.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team and foster strong relationships with key Brisbane 2032 Functional Areas, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC), stakeholders, delivery partners and suppliers to deliver stakeholder-focused plans and operations.
  • Develop, maintain and report on the Games transport program plan and schedules, ensuring early identification, recording and resolution of planning and operational issues and risks by addressing contingencies, policy direction, program development, resource allocation, program reporting and operational strategy.
  • Development and updating of the Roles & Responsibilities Matrix across key Transport partners to ensure clear role identification and differentiation, and formal agreement between partners.
  • Establish and lead the transport stakeholder design process, service level development and supporting modelling and insights, mapping and technology requirements, integrating across all transport functions. Once established, support the Bus, Fleet and Venue Transport teams in delivering the agreed service levels.
  • Manage Transport Functional Area budgets, workforce and resource planning requirements.
  • Develop transport testing, readiness and C3 programs, reporting frameworks, risks, issues and dependencies to support operational preparedness.

Skills and Experience

  • Significant senior experience in large-scale event transportation planning, readiness and operations, and stakeholder engagement and coordination with transport stakeholders, operators and delivery partners, ideally within a major event or multi-sport Games environment.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and project management skills, risk identification and mitigation and budget management including the ability to translate complex transport requirements into practical delivery plans.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across government, transport agencies, operators and private stakeholder groups to clarify responsibilities, align expectations and enable delivery.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan multi-stakeholder initiatives, providing direction when needed, empowering others and removing obstacles to get work done.
  • Ability to create effective relationships, influence and collaborate at all organisational levels and across all partner groups, including internal FAs, government agencies and external delivery partners.
  • Strong leadership and communication capabilities, enabling you to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and guide teams, contractors, and stakeholders through planning, readiness, and Games-time delivery, while expertly explaining complex technical concepts, facilitating workshops, and preparing executive-level briefs.
  • Tertiary education in transport planning, logistics, event management, project management, business, engineering, urban planning or a related discipline, or significant relevant experience in major event transport delivery.

To Apply

If you are a passionate and experienced Head of Transport (Planning & Operations), looking for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we encourage you to apply.
