A new and exciting opportunity has emerged with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (Brisbane 2032) for a Head of Procurement.

If you're a talented professional looking for a career defining and high impact role, this is your chance.

Brisbane 2032 is not just planning a sporting event - they’re shaping a lasting legacy for future generations. Our Vision for Brisbane 2032 is

...
  • Believe: We believe in the power of sport and the Australian spirit. Together, they unlock our limitless potential, grit, and heart to go further than we ever imagined.

  • Become: This is our moment. Our move. Together, we’ll harness the magic of the Games to become stronger and step boldly into an exciting new era.

As an ambitious and inclusive organisation - Brisbane 2032 offers a rare opportunity to contribute to the world's largest sporting event, the world's largest multicultural event, and the world's largest event for people with disability. It is a chance to showcase to the world what Australia has to offer. It is also a chance to celebrate the world’s oldest continuing living culture, Australia’s First Nations peoples, and to promote and further the cause of accessibility and opportunity for all.

As part of this application process, we encourage you to share your motivation to join the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We highly value diverse perspectives and invite you to share your lived experience if you are of First Nations heritage or a person living with disability.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Director of Procurement, this crucial position involves leading a team to source a diverse range of goods and services across multiple industry sectors and categories. You will be responsible for developing and managing the day-to-day sourcing program, delivering strong commercial value through negotiations, and directing contract management support and advice across various functional areas of the organisation.

The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience operating as a strategic procurement business partner within complex organisations, coupled with exceptional team leadership and stakeholder management skills. We are looking for an adaptable leader with a proven track record of driving commercial sourcing activities across service-based categories, including marketing, professional services, technology, workforce, operations, or major event environments. Professionals bringing corporate, private sector, consulting, infrastructure, or major project procurement experience will be highly regarded for this unique opportunity to enable positive outcomes for the Games.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing end-to-end procurement leadership and operational support to all Brisbane 2032 functional areas, this role leads procurement planning, liaises with internal and external stakeholders, and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Partner with functional areas and build trusted advisor relationships with senior leaders to understand business objectives, shape procurement strategies, and enable delivery outcomes, ensuring procurement is viewed as a strategic enabler with proactive commercial advice and fit-for-purpose sourcing approaches.
  • Manage work allocation and performance of the Specialist and Officer roles, including individual performance plans, regular feedback, support and workload management.
  • Manage work quality standards and act as an escalation point for the Senior Leadership Team to resolve issues quickly and collaboratively.
  • All aspects of sourcing activities, including RFx development, RFx management, commercial negotiations, drafting decision papers and RFx compliance requirements.
  • Lead the team in contract negotiation and contract reviews, working with the Legal team as required in relation to legal matters, to execute any approved contracts.
  • Leading advice to functional areas in contract management, including monitoring delivery, quality, costs and risks, preparing variations and extensions, managing disputes, and closing out contracts. Whilst directly managing contract performance as the Contract Holder for any contracts nominated to the Procurement functional area.
  • Leading the compliance of the organisation in accordance with company policies and procedures. This will include leading the compliance review with the Queensland Audit Office and being responsible for the close out of any QAO finding and actions.
  • Developing strong stakeholder relationships with internal functional areas, external Games Delivery Partners and suppliers.
  • Support the Director of Procurement in community engagement, manage policy, governance, and system initiatives, and uphold a culture of safety and wellbeing through compliance with workplace procedures.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading procurement and commercial sourcing activities across complex service categories, such as marketing and creative services, professional services, technology, major events, operations, facilities management, workforce or contingent labour, and other strategic spend categories.
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience, with exceptional team and stakeholder management, including at the Executive level.
  • A strong team player, comfortable working in a small, collaborative team environment that will scale into a large and complex organisation.
  • Experience developing category strategies and leading high-value, complex sourcing programs that deliver commercial outcomes while balancing stakeholder requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to engage supplier markets, understand market dynamics and develop sourcing approaches that maximise competition, innovation and value.
  • Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated experience structuring and negotiating complex commercial arrangements, balancing value, risk, delivery outcomes and stakeholder needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract management, including drafting, execution, and performance monitoring.
  • Experience operating within private sector, commercial, major project, infrastructure, consulting or major event environments is highly regarded
  • Familiarity with the Queensland Government Procurement Policy.
