Are you a qualified gardener looking for a stable, high-paying role within local government operations? We are currently seeking a motivated, trade-qualified Parks & Gardens team members to support major municipal open space contracts across Melbourne's northern and western regions.
Operating out of the council depot, you will join a dedicated civil crew ensuring that public parks, sporting reserves, and council facilities are kept in pristine condition. These contracts are initially locked in for a 2-to-5-month blocks, offering excellent hours and highly competitive local government rates.
Working under the direction of a Crew Leader, your day-to-day duties will include:
Horticultural Upkeep: Executing contemporary horticultural maintenance across garden beds, including planting, mulching, pruning, and detailed weeding.
Turf & Open Space Care: Operating commercial ride-on mowers, line trimmers, and light mechanical plant to maintain expansive turf areas and reserves.
Chemical Application: Safe setup and application of pesticides/herbicides as part of scheduled weed control programs.
Asset & Site Protection: Conducting daily pre-start safety inspections and minor field maintenance on plant, equipment, and trailers. Ensuring sites are cleared of litter and hazards prior to commencing works.
Team & Mentorship: Working collaboratively within a small crew, occasionally providing casual trade guidance or on-the-job support to apprentices and trainees.
We are looking for an experienced outdoor professional who can hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications & Tickets:
Trade Qualification: Certificate III in Horticulture, Parks & Gardens, Arboriculture, or an equivalent trade qualification.
Licence: Current Victorian Driver’s Licence (Medium/Heavy Rigid licence highly desirable).
Safety & Compliance: Valid Construction Induction White Card, WWCC.
Traffic Management or ACUP (Chemical) certificates are highly regarded.
Skills & Experience:
Demonstrated hands-on background in commercial landscape maintenance or municipal parks operations.
Competence in utilizing power tools, precision light mechanical plant, and commercial mowers.
Physical fitness to undertake manual handling, lifting, and bending across outdoor and uneven roadside terrain.
Strong team focus with a polite, courteous manner when interacting with members of the general public.
Top-Tier Pay: Excellent $36-$40 base rate with consistent, reliable weekly pay.
