Are you a detail-oriented FOI and Information Access specialist looking for your next rewarding contract?
I am currently partnering with a key state government agency with an exciting contract opportunity for an experienced Freedom of Information or Access to Information Officer.
This is a critical role within the Corporate Governance team, ensuring that legislative requirements and customer service standards are met across all information requests. A background in workers compensation and/or claims management in an insurance environment would be an added advantage and see you "hit the ground running".
About the Opportunity
As the Access to Information Officer, you will be responsible for assessing and determining applications and requests for information under relevant legislation, court orders, subpoenas, and warrants within required timeframes. You will review complex documents, interact with internal and external stakeholders, and handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and determine applications according to the RTW Act, the Freedom of Information Act 1991, and other federal or state legislation/s.
- Process court orders, subpoenas, and warrants served on the agency within strict court-mandated timeframes.
- Identify, retrieve, and package information from multiple system sources, archives, third-party providers, and claims agents.
- Provide consistent, equitable advice and education to internal staff, external stakeholders, and the general public regarding information release procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with process improvement initiatives across the team.
Ideally you will:
- Proven experience in processing Freedom of Information (FOI) applications and interpreting relevant administrative law or privacy legislation.
- Background in or solid understanding of workers compensation, insurance environments, or claims management processes.
- Strong skills in reviewing complex documentation, writing clear determinations, and conducting thorough research.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality.
