Randstad Qualififed Finance has partnered with an expanding, multi-divisional Australian construction business. We are seeking a commercial, hands-on Finance Manager to lead their internal finance function, oversee daily operational accounting, and drive robust financial governance across all active jobs.
The Opportunity
You will lead an established team of four accounts personnel, ensuring end-to-end financial accuracy, rigorous project reconciliations, and proactive cash flow management across the organisation. This is a hands-on role, for someone who enjoys managing the end to end financial position of a business.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Operations: Supervise, mentor, and delegate daily workflows for a team of four accounts staff across both the specialised fit-out and major construction divisions.
Invoicing & Revenue Capture: Ensure all project milestones, contract variations, progress claims, and billable works are accurately calculated and billed without delay.
Project Accounting: Conduct thorough project reconciliations comparing actual expenditures against billed revenue, managing Work in Progress (WIP), unbilled revenue, and final job closeouts.
Credit Control & Cash Flow: Direct the Accounts Receivable function, actively monitoring aged debtors, enforcing structured collection procedures, and delivering clear cash flow visibility to leadership.
Executive Reporting: Compile comprehensive monthly reporting packages detailing gross margins, job profitability, working capital, and operational expenditure for Director review.
General Ledger & AP Governance: Oversee supplier invoice coding, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reviews, and month-end close procedures.
External Audit & Compliance: Serve as the primary operational link for external accounting partners, coordinating documentation for BAS, GST, and annual statutory reporting.
Ideal candidate
We are seeking a tenacious, detail-oriented finance leader who actively monitors job margins and ensures no billable revenue is overlooked.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience within construction, building, property development, or project-based environments.
Proven experience managing, mentoring, and allocating responsibilities across an operational finance team.
Strong command of project accounting principles, including progress billings, variation tracking, WIP analysis, and job reconciliations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel alongside modern accounting software (experience with platforms such as Xero or Cheops is highly advantageous).
CA/CPA qualification is regarded favourably, though candidates with extensive practical construction finance experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Excellent commercial acumen, clear communication skills, and the confidence to hold project leaders and external clients accountable.
