Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director to join their National Early Childhood Branch. In this role, you will lead complex quality assurance and operational functions to assist young children under nine with developmental delays or disabilities and their families. Accountable under broad direction, you will lead high performing teams, manage compliance within statutory frameworks and drive continuous quality improvement to support optimal outcomes and plan sustainability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical & Policy Advice: Provide high level technical, policy and operational support on quality assurance and quality control activities regarding early childhood planning and decision making to manage quality and sustainability risks.
- Team Leadership & Performance: Manage team performance and outputs to meet branch quality targets, fostering a positive culture through direct leadership, mentoring and workload priority management.
- Capability Building: Apply best practice coaching models to enhance delegate capability, technical skills and quality decision making.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Maintain data collection systems, utilise advanced Excel skills and interpret performance data including trend, business impact and risk analysis to support evidence based national reporting.
- Business Improvement: Identify and lead business improvement initiatives to achieve strategic goals while implementing effective change management strategies.
- Stakeholder Management: Actively build and maintain strategic relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, representing and negotiating on behalf of the branch.
- Governance & Risk: Exercise sound judgement and substantial discretion within broad objective parameters to evaluate risk and apply regulatory frameworks in a dynamic environment.
Skills Required
- Legislative Compliance: Strong ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies, procedures and standards to ensure compliance and effective decision making.
- Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead, manage and mentor teams, manage workflows, set priorities and build capability through coaching and constructive feedback.
- Technical Expertise: Expertise in providing detailed technical, professional, policy and operational advice on complex issues.
- Delegate Coaching: Proficiency in applying best practice coaching models to enhance delegate decision making capabilities.
- Data Analytics: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong data analysis skills to interpret and manage data effectively for informed decision making.
- Adaptability & Drive: Ability to operate with considerable independence, navigating complex operational environments with innovation and strategic alignment.
Knowledge and Experience Required
Candidates should demonstrate experience across some or all of the following areas:
- Early Childhood Sector: Experience or qualification in the early childhood sector.
- Disability & Allied Health: Experience in the disability sector and/or allied health qualifications.
- Public Service Sector: Practical experience within the public service sector, applying statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks.
Qualifications & Eligibility
- Education: A relevant degree or equivalent professional work experience in lieu of formal qualifications.
- Citizenship: You must be an Australian Citizen to be eligible for employment with the agency.
- Vetting: Satisfactory completion of an Employment Suitability Check / National Police Check prior to commencement.
- Assessment Requirement: As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a practical work assessment in addition to participating in an interview.
