job details

A new and exciting opportunity has emerged with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (Brisbane 2032) for a Director of Venue Infrastructure.

If you're a talented professional looking for a career defining and high impact role, this is your chance.

Brisbane 2032 is not just planning a sporting event - they’re shaping a lasting legacy for future generations. Our Vision for Brisbane 2032 is

...
  • Believe: We believe in the power of sport and the Australian spirit. Together, they unlock our limitless potential, grit, and heart to go further than we ever imagined.
  • Belong: Everyone is welcome at our Games. Every person is celebrated, creating a playing field that’s fair, fun, and full of connection!
  • Become: This is our moment. Our move. Together, we’ll harness the magic of the Games to become stronger and step boldly into an exciting new era.

As an ambitious and inclusive organisation - Brisbane 2032 offers a rare opportunity to contribute to the world's largest sporting event, the world's largest multicultural event, and the world's largest event for people with disability. It is a chance to showcase to the world what Australia has to offer. It is also a chance to celebrate the world’s oldest continuing living culture, Australia’s First Nations peoples, and to promote and further the cause of accessibility and opportunity for all.

As part of this application process, we encourage you to share your motivation to be part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and your lived experience which will help you contribute to these Games.

About the Role

As a key senior leader for Brisbane 2032, you will spearhead the strategic delivery of infrastructure, overlay, and services across an unprecedented footprint: 35+ competition venues, up to 13 villages, the Main Media Centre, and numerous other non-competition venues.
You will partner closely with the Director of Venues (spanning Venue Management and Village Functional Areas) and key Games Delivery Partner senior leaders, including the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA), the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP), and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Office (OPGO).
As the organisation scales, you will build capability across this service-oriented department, actively managing risks and driving alignment across Functional Areas to ensure delivery certainty. By establishing robust delivery models and overseeing major contracts you will enable seamless venue preparation. Ultimately, at Games-time, you will step up to lead a large, blended workforce of staff and contractors, delivering flawless operations and a world-class experience for athletes, officials, and stakeholders.
Initially reporting to the CEO, this role will transition to reporting to the Chief of Games Delivery once that position is appointed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish, lead, and manage the Venue Infrastructure Department, including sub-functions such as Venue Design and Delivery, Engineering Services, and Look and Signage, alongside a strong central services support team.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the Venue Infrastructure strategy for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, embedding clear optimisation objectives relating to cost, program efficiency and resource utilisation.
  • Lead the stakeholder management for venue infrastructure planning and delivery by fostering strong relationships with the Queensland State Government (including DSDIP, GIICA, the International Olympic Committee (IOC)/International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and venue owners/operators.
  • Oversee integrated planning with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of deliverables, scope and key milestones, including a RACI matrix of responsibilities across key Games Delivery Partners to ensure clear agreement on roles and responsibilities.
  • Ensure a coordinated program management approach for venues planning and delivery by integrating design, procurement, scheduling, contract management, and construction of overlay and technical services which are fully aligned across operational areas (i.e. technology, ceremonies, broadcast, logistics, security, sport, and transport).
  • Recruit, onboard, develop and engage a high performing, service focussed Venue Infrastructure team.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of venue temporary overlay delivery including the design process and systems, procurement, scheduling and management, construction, readiness, and post-Games decommissioning
  • Work with Brisbane 2032 Venue Management and Village Management teams and other FAs to develop FA infrastructure requirements, temporary overlay delivery timelines, and optimised delivery solutions, ensuring Games stakeholder requirements are met and inclusivity across all temporary facilities and services.
  • Ensure on time and on budget delivery. Actively drive cost control, forecasting accuracy and value optimisation across the venue infrastructure program
  • Working hand-in-hand with Venue Management and Village FAs, you will lead highly efficient transitions prior to, during, and after the Games.

Skills and Experience

  • Significant senior leadership experience in infrastructure, overlay and services planning, delivery and management, demonstrating successful delivery of complex, multi-site and large-scale programs (e.g. major projects, precincts, or infrastructure portfolios).
  • Experience in a similar major, multi-sport, multi-venue event role, ideally within Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience working with all levels of government including statutory authorities, regulatory bodies, councils, planning departments, building regulators, health and safety and licensing agencies to obtain required development approvals, permits, and certifications.
  • Strong successful leadership experience in establishing, building and managing large, diverse, multi-disciplinary, service focussed and high performing teams (salaried and contractors) in high-pressure, multi-stakeholder and changing environments.
  • Tertiary qualified in architecture, engineering, or project management, with a robust understanding of Australian and international construction regulations, accessibility requirements, and best practices for delivering temporary overlay and permanent infrastructure.
  • Proven capability to build collaborative working relationships, both internally and with external delivery partners, with experience in navigating and influencing complex stakeholder groups.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, backed by proven communication, management, and contract negotiation skills. You excel at managing large venue budgets and long-term resourcing strategies while continuously identifying efficiencies, developing innovative ideas, and executing creative concepts within strict budgets and fixed timelines.
