As part of our exciting expansion in South Australia, we have launched a brand-new Adelaide CBD office and are building out our Home Assessing capability. We are seeking an exceptional leader to head up our newly created Desktop Moderate Severity team.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the State Manager, the Team Leader – Home Assessing (Moderate Severity) plays a critical leadership role in guiding, coaching, and inspiring a high-performing team of Desktop Assessors. Your team handles end-to-end moderate severity residential home claims, specializing in Fire and Escape of Liquid (EOL) events.
In this role, you will lead a team (currently scaling from 5–6 to 8 team members), ensuring high scoping accuracy, cost validation, strict compliance, and outstanding customer outcomes—all delivered via virtual assessment technology from our Adelaide office.
Key Responsibilities
- People Leadership & Culture: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of 6 to 8 Desktop Assessors. Drive a supportive culture focused on accountability, high integrity, performance, and continuous capability development.
- Coaching & Technical Excellence: Provide hands-on coaching in virtual assessment techniques, scope of works (SOW) validation, repair cost control, and software utilization.
- Escalation & Risk Management: Act as the key point of escalation for complex claims, sensitive complaints, trade dispute resolution, and high-care or vulnerable customer scenarios.
- Operational & Cost Management: Monitor operational reporting and team KPIs to maintain cost control, scoping accuracy, and adherence to regulatory service levels.
- Stakeholder & Relationship Building: Maintain strong working relationships across internal claims teams and external panel builders, restorers, and specialists.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a proven leader who brings a blend of people management skills, operational reporting literacy, and technical knowledge in home assessing or residential construction.
- Leadership Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience leading, performance-managing, and coaching teams with clear accountability for business results.
- Industry Background: Minimum 2 years of experience in Home Assessing, Insurance Claims, Estimating, or the Residential Building Industry.
- Technical & Scoping Acumen: Solid understanding of residential building principles, scope accuracy, and virtual assessment workflows.
- Communication & Negotiation: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to handle complex escalations and negotiate with builders and trade professionals.
- Analytical & Agile Mindset: Strong operational reporting literacy and change agility to continuously optimize team performance.
