Civil Maintenance Officer – Plant Operator & Asphalt

Work Type: Full-Time Short Term Contract (current role till end of October)
We are seeking an experienced Civil Maintenance Officer to join our public sector client’s civil infrastructure team. Working as part of an active field crew, you will be responsible for operating heavy plant, delivering asphalt maintenance programs, and maintaining municipal road and drainage assets to high quality and safety standards.
This is a practical, hands-on role suited to a skilled operator with strong civil background who takes pride in maintaining public infrastructure for the community.
Plant & Equipment Operation: Safely operate assigned civil plant and heavy vehicles including Flocon units, front-end loaders, backhoes, and heavy trucks (up to 45T).
Civil & Asphalt Maintenance: Execute road and footpath maintenance, including asphalt laying, patching, compaction, and general civil asset repairs.
Routine Machinery Maintenance: Perform daily pre-start checks, lubrication, logbook updates, and prompt reporting of mechanical defects to minimize operational delays.
WHS & Risk Management: Review and adhere to Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), conduct site risk assessments prior to tasks, and ensure all work complies with workplace safety standards.
Record Keeping: Complete accurate daily timesheets, work logs, incident reports, and database entries required for infrastructure operations.
Teamwork & On-the-Job Support: Work collaboratively within the civil crew, providing guidance to team members and assisting tradespersons and maintenance personnel as needed.
Driver's Licence: Current valid Driver's Licence with relevant heavy vehicle/plant endorsements (e.g., HR/HC licence).
Civil Experience: Demonstrated experience in civil works, specifically asphalt laying, compaction, and road maintenance.
Plant Competency: Proven ability to safely operate a range of heavy civil plant and machinery (Flocon, loaders, backhoes, trucks).
Safety & Compliance: Thorough understanding of WHS procedures, risk management, SWMS implementation, and basic quality control techniques.
Technical Skills: Ability to read maps and civil plans, perform basic measurements, and complete daily administrative reporting.
Pre-Employment Checks: Ability to pass a National Police Check and hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).
Experience in a similar civil maintenance or plant operator role.
Prior experience working within a local government or municipal infrastructure environment.
Consistent hours with a structured public sector operations team.
Dynamic outdoor work environment utilizing modern civil plant and equipment.
