Role PurposeWe are seeking a hands-on Azure Cloud Consultant (Resilience) for a 6-month initial contract (with high potential for extension) to stabilise a critical cloud platform footprint with an Enterprise client in Adelaide. This is a practical, execution-focused role for a technical operator who can roll up their sleeves, write code, configure infrastructure and eliminate single points of failure directly within the environment.
While foundational cloud architecture knowledge is required, your day-to-day focus will be technical execution, refactoring legacy configurations, writing modular Infrastructure as Code (IaC), building CI/CD pipelines and executing automated chaos and failover testing. Working directly alongside internal engineering teams, you will combine deep technical capability with strong communication to upskill staff, overcome technical debt and establish resilient Azure operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Resilience Implementation: Build and configure fault-tolerant Azure platform infrastructure aligned with well Architected principles to systematically eliminate single points of failure and meet recovery targets (RTO/RPO).
- Hands-on IaC & Automation: Write, test and deploy modular Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Bicep, embedding automated deployment controls into Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions pipelines.
- Failover & Chaos Testing Execution: Script, configure and execute automated resilience testing and chaos engineering experiments (e.g., Azure Chaos Studio) to actively validate platform durability.
- Data Platform Automation: Hands-on configuration and automated provisioning of network security, storage and failover patterns for analytics workloads, specifically Azure Databricks.
- Technical Upskilling & Mentorship: Work directly in the environment alongside team members demonstrating best-practice cloud automation, troubleshooting complex failures and driving technical adoption through practical execution rather than high-level policy.
Technical Experience
- Azure Infrastructure Engineering: Strong hands-on experience building, configuring and troubleshooting enterprise Azure cloud infrastructure, high-availability setups and disaster recovery mechanics.
- IaC & Tooling Proficiency: Advanced practical experience writing Terraform (AzureRM provider) or Bicep scripts, alongside hands-on CI/CD pipeline creation (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions).
- Resilience & Testing Execution: Direct experience configuring and executing automated resilience tests, failover scripts and chaos engineering tools (e.g., Azure Chaos Studio).
- Data Platforms: Experience with enterprise data platforms (Databricks experience is highly advantageous).
Qualifications & Key Capabilities
- Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical industry experience.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are well regarded.
- Strong communication skills are needed and preferred to have someone with the consulting mindset to effectively influence stakeholders, articulate trade-offs and accelerate technical adoption.
