Are you a strategic leader who thrives on building strong relationships and translating local community insights into policy? We are seeking an experienced EL1 Assistant Director to lead an Engagement and Support team for a prominent federal government department.
In this role, you will work directly alongside the State Manager as a senior leader on site, helping to foster meaningful stakeholder relationships, analyze key regional trends, and ensure the local office operates safely, cohesively, and effectively.
About your next role
- Work directly with the State Manager to build and maintain strategic relationships with state, territory, and local governments, peak bodies, and departmental policy areas.
- Lead the analysis of regional intelligence and trends across the community services sector to inform national policy and program delivery.
- Coordinate engagement with defined policy divisions within the department and support key Ministerial visits and events.
- Support site operations, including work health and safety, business continuity, and building a connected, positive office culture.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of corporate support and engagement personnel.
What you will need to bring
- Proven ability to engage, collaborate, and negotiate with high-level internal and external stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of coaching and developing staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor complex information for various audiences.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, organizational skills, and the capacity to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to understand broader strategic directions and translate them into effective, compliant operational work plans.
Mandatory Requirements
- Australian Citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an APS Baseline Security Clearance.
- Candidate must not be subject to an active Australian Public Service (APS) Voluntary Redundancy exclusion period.
