Randstad has partnered with a leading Queensland Government Agency to secure a Senior Project Officer (Spatial) - AO6 to join a vital environmental and infrastructure initiative.
In this role, you will play a key technical and strategic part in supporting the management and remediation of abandoned mine sites across Queensland. You will lead spatial information management, GIS analysis, and data-driven mapping across the statewide Abandoned Mine Lands Program (AMLP) and State-owned non-commercial water assets.
Your spatial expertise will directly contribute to reducing environmental risks, improving public safety, and protecting Queensland's natural land and water assets.
Key Responsibilities
Spatial Data Management: Oversee, structure, and maintain high-quality GIS datasets, spatial databases, and mapping systems dedicated to abandoned mine sites and water assets.
Advanced Spatial Analysis: Perform complex spatial analyses, remote sensing assessments, and predictive modeling to inform site remediation strategies, environmental risk assessments, and asset management decisions.
Technical Advice & Reporting: Translate complex spatial and geographic data into actionable insights, clear technical reports, maps, and dashboards for senior leadership, policy makers, and project teams.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental engineers, hydrogeologists, field officers, and external contractors, ensuring spatial information aligns with broader program objectives.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in spatial tools, automation, workflows, and spatial data governance standards across the program.
About You
To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:
Spatial Expertise: Strong background in GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise) and database management systems.
Analytical Skills: Proven experience delivering complex spatial analysis, thematic mapping, and spatial problem-solving within environmental, mining, land, or water resource management contexts.
Communication & Engagement: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical spatial information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Public Sector Capability: Familiarity with Queensland Government frameworks, spatial standards, or state environmental/resource management legislative frameworks is highly regarded.
Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Spatial Science, Surveying, Environmental Science, or a related discipline are required.
