Do you love sewing, screen printing, baking, or hands-on crafts, and have a passion for encouraging and mentoring others in a welcoming setting? This role is all about weaving creativity into local enterprise, building capacity through skill-sharing, and embracing Yolŋu Culture through everyday community life.
This is a full-time, permanent remote residential position based in an isolated Aboriginal community in Arnhem Land. While you'll experience stunning tropical landscapes and deep cultural connection, remote life requires independence and adaptability (accessible mostly via light aircraft or unsealed roads).
Key Responsibilities
• Creative Activity Coordination: Lead and create hands-on workshops in crafts, textiles (sewing, screen printing, dyeing), weaving, or basic food prep. Curate an environment that entices participation.
• Mentoring & Capacity Building: Work side-by-side with local Yolŋu Supervisors and participants, sharing practical skills to enhance employability and build confidence.
• Resource & Site Logistics: Manage craft room logistics, track inventory, order supplies, and maintain a safe, welcoming hub.
• Community Enterprise: Support community-led initiatives that celebrate cultural heritage, generate social innovation, and promote health and wellbeing.
What You Will Bring
• Practical experience in arts, crafts, textiles (sewing, screen printing), cooking, or community-based creative projects.
• A warm, encouraging approach to mentoring and building confidence in the people you support.
• High-level cultural awareness and adaptability to live and work respectfully in a remote Aboriginal Community.
• Proven ability to drive participant engagement in resource-limited settings through hands-on leadership, quick-thinking adaptability, and a knack for making big impacts with basic tools.
• Unrestricted Manual Driver’s Licence (mandatory).
• NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) & First Aid Certification (or eligible/willing to obtain).
• Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office and an understanding of Key Performance Indicators and how to meet and report upon outcomes.
