The Category Manager role involves devising and executing strategies to enhance the performance of specific product or service categories. This entails collaborating with various teams to identify opportunities for cost reduction and value addition, negotiating with suppliers, managing contracts, and leading significant procurement projects.
FUNCTIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Governance, Compliance, and Risk Management:
- Develop and maintain business standards, systems, and processes.
- Ensure adherence to national standards and facilitate communication across regional teams.
- Identify, evaluate, and address risks while implementing mitigation strategies.
Communication and Relationships:
- Foster collaborative relationships internally and externally.
- Ensure collaboration across functions for guidance and direction.
Support to Regional Teams:
- Provide support for enhancing efficiency through benchmarking, training, and mentoring.
- Report instances of non-compliance and provide input into project selection and pricing.
TECHNICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Category Management:
- Develop and adjust category strategies in response to business requirements.
- Act as a point of escalation for internal and external issues.
Strategic Sourcing:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to meet their needs.
- Conduct tenders and negotiations aligned with category strategy.
- Manage supplier relationships and review existing agreements.
Procurement Function:
- Undertake significant procurement projects.
- Support national strategies and ensure compliance with company objectives.
- Demonstrate ethical values and professionalism in procurement practices.
GOVERNANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, company policies, and confidentiality.
What you will need to be successful
Experience required/desirable
- Minimum 5+ years experience in Category Management, Procurement, or related field.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems.
- High accuracy and attention to detail.
- Preferred qualification: CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply.
