the role

As part of the National team, the Community and Peer Advisor will work collaboratively with the regional Community Engagement Teams who provide direct local support to clients and community stakeholders. Using your lived experience, you will respectfully support and educate consumers and stakeholders about strengths-based, recovery-oriented practices and community support services and in doing so, foster wellbeing.


  • Engage in community education and support of clients and key stakeholders.
  • Provide personalised peer support services and advocacy to current and former ADF members.
  • Co-facilitate relevant group programs for service consumers and providers.
  • Role model behaviours which promote mental health recovery and wellness for the purpose of community and stakeholder education and engagement.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical practice, accreditation and governance policies.

about you

If you have personal experience of mental health issues and the ADF service as either an ex-ADF member or partner/carer of a current serving or ex-ADF member, this opportunity would allow you to use your life experience to make a positive impact on others.

  • A completed Certificate or the willingness to complete the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
  • The ability to respectfully utilise your experience to promote a recovery focused approach, support others and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify as being a person with lived experience of mental illness and ADF service for the purpose of community education. (Background preference of a Royal Australian Air Force or Navy Veteran)
  • Previous experience supporting veterans and their families is highly desirable.
  • A current full drivers license and Australian citizenship
  • Eligibility to obtain a Working with Children check &/or Vulnerable people Clearance.

The role offers a highly competitive rate of $54 per hour plus super. There will be occasional regional and interstate travel required.
