Located in the City of Tea Tree Gully, Waterworld Aquatic Centre is a leading outdoor aquatic facility boasting three heated pools including a 50m lap pool, 20m Learner pool and Toddler pool, amazing grassed areas, large water slides and splash park features. Waterworld is seeking a Swim School Assistant to help deliver a safe, clean, and fun environment for all our visitors during the 2025 summer season.

As a Swim School Assistant at Waterworld, you’ll be a vital part of our learn-to-swim program, working alongside experienced swim instructors to deliver safe, engaging, and confidence-building lessons to children of all ages and skill levels. This role is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about working with kids, enjoy being in the water, and want to make a positive impact in their local community.
You’ll provide in-water support during lessons, helping young swimmers practice skills, feel comfortable in the aquatic environment, and develop a lifelong love of swimming. Your responsibilities will include setting up equipment, maintaining a clean and safe learning space, observing student progress, and communicating effectively with instructors and supervisors.
Reporting to the Team Leader of Aquatic Programs, this is a senior support role suited to someone with experience in swim instruction, aquatic education, or child-focused recreation programs. You’ll be expected to take initiative, model best practices, and contribute to the development of a positive, professional learning environment. Your leadership and reliability will play a key role in the continued success of our swim school and the safety and enjoyment of our participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist swim instructors during swimming lessons by providing in-water support and encouragement to participants.
- Help set up and pack away equipment before and after classes.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment for all students and families.
- Observe and communicate student progress and safety concerns to instructors.
- Model positive behaviour and promote enjoyment, safety, and skill development in the water.
- Assist in day to day admin tasks to support the Team Leader of Aquatic Programs.
- Respond to parent and carer enquiries or concerns with professionalism and empathy, ensuring a positive experience for families at Waterworld Aquatic Centre.
What We’re Looking For:
- Enthusiasm for working with children and a positive, team-focused attitude.
- Good communication skills and a proactive approach to supporting lessons.
- Strong customer service ethic.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Availability during swim school operational hours (including after school and weekends).
- Experience in a swim school, educational, childcare or sporting setting.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Austswim Certificate - Teacher of Swimming (or equivalent).
- Austswim Certificate - Teacher of Infants & Preschool Aquatics (desirable)
- Provide First Aid
- Child Safe Environment Training
- Working With Children Check (paid employment)
- Operate Breathing Apparatus (desirable or willing to obtain)
