Purpose:

As a key member of the project leadership team and reporting directly to the Project Director, the Study Manager will provide leadership, management expertise and direction to the Project to ensure this $3 billion mining expansion project is delivered meeting the projects objectives.

Core Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development by effectively implementing HSEC policy and management standards
  • Adhere to and demonstrate Charter Values
  • Demonstrate adherence of the Life Preserving Rules
  • Promote positive changes in organizational culture across the site
  • Ensure targets are met or exceeded, in quality, quantity and timing as per relevant department business plans

Role Profile

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Prepare operating, capital and manning budgets and control expenditure to agreed levels
  • Ensure that working capital is managed according to industry best practice
  • Ensure that capital expenditure complies with the capital approvals process
  • Lead consistently against core safety behaviours, as detailed in the HSEC management systems roles and responsibilities
  • Develop effective communication processes to maintain and motivate employees ensuring they work to achieve the best interest of the project and are aware of and strive for the goals of the team
  • Implement staff management systems
  • Periodically assess competency and performance of direct reports against business requirements and prepare corrective and development plans as necessary. Ensure such reviews are carried out in relevant operations
  • Maintain open and efficient communication channels with Managers and Staff to share knowledge, contacts, experience and expertise
  • Where appropriate ensure all statutory reporting requirements are met
  • Coordinate project portfolio activities through SPS (Prefeasibility) and DPS (Feasibility) to ensure department constraints are not stretched and assign the right project leaders to effectively and efficiently coordinate the various multidiscipline teams. Mobilise and move contractor resources as necessary to ensure success across all Major Maintenance portfolio projects
  • Define project tactics and execution strategies. Deliver on Project budgets, timeline, and safety performance at commensurate scope/scale for the role
  • Utilise controls and metrics to ensure all risks are balanced, and in compliance to company standards.
  • Ensure suitable project control processes are in place to consistently deliver on project KPIs.
  • Maintain strong and transparent relationships with internal and external Stakeholders and to related projects

Qualifications

Engineering degree or similar qualification

Experience & Technical Competencies

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in project & study management roles
  • Experience in the project development in mining, minerals processing, hydrocarbons industry or heavy construction industry
  • Experience in delivering studies and/or large multi-disciplinary projects from an Owner’s team perspective is essential – especially prefeasibility and feasibility studies
  • Leading and managing a large team
  • Experience encouraging others to generate good ideas
  • Experience driving a project to a successful conclusion
  • Superior presentation skills
  • Proven financial evaluation skills
  • Understanding of engineering standards and requirements applicable to large capital growth expansion related to a mining or mineral processing operation
  • Superior computer skills – using Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to operate at multiple levels and across disciplines
  • Current drivers licence
