job description

About the organisation:
Looking for a Strategic Stormwater Planner for 4 days a week in a NSW Government department. It offers great money with a focus on leading steps within a project to establish the catchment land use policy and statutory planning mechanisms which will create a swimmable river.

Key accountabilities:

  • To partner with relevant agencies in leading the standardisation of policies and practices that impact water quality across the catchment to create a swimmable river. Specifically, this relates to stormwater harvesting outcomes in urban development.
  • Adopt a regional approach to the installation, maintenance and reporting of stormwater infrastructure and water sensitive urban design infrastructure to reduce stormwater run-off.
  • To manage consultants and contractors engaged to complete projects or provide services.
  • To provide technical expertise into and contribute to the day to day operational aspects of the project.
  • Lead the standardisation of policies, development controls and practices that impact stormwater management across the catchment aligned to the existing modelling of water quality.
  • Lead the development of a regional approach to the installation, maintenance and reporting of stormwater infrastructure and water sensitive urban design infrastructure to reduce stormwater run-off. In particular, consideration of the co-ordinated rolls out of streetscape stormwater management.
  • Work with State Government Agencies and support councils to assess and prioritise sites for additional WSUD infrastructure, including establishing funding mechanisms for ongoing maintenance and monitoring.

Key Challenges:

  • Influence land use policy, regulation and practices that impact water quality.
  • Coordinate the actions of councils and state government agencies that have a role in reducing stormwater runoff through water sensitive urban design (WSUD).
  • Foster working relationships and collaboration with stakeholders in the catchment to deliver relevant project actions.
  • Work with people at all levels of government (elected representatives, managers, technical officers) as well as community representatives.

About the ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will have worked in a similar role, but in short you will have:

  • Knowledge of stormwater infrastructure, including stormwater treatment systems.
  • Experience in managing strategic projects.
  • An understanding of land use planning in NSW and the mechanisms that impact urban waterway water quality.
  • An ability to build strong, co-operative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

What’s in it for you?
My client can offer a great base salary and opportunities for development with the public sector. You will be working across a high-visibility portfolio and more importantly, with great people and a driven, unique culture.
