Payroll Manager / Stand Alone Payroll Officer

  • Oversee a payroll of 120-150 staff.
  • Reporting directly into the HR Manager for the business.
  • Full-Time, Permanent role with scope for flexibility of hours.

We are recruiting for an Australian part of a large, global business that is undergoing a period of growth. They have had positive business results recently and are building on this by adding headcount throughout their global operations. They are based in the CBD just 5-10 minutes walk from Flinders Street Station and about 10-15 minutes walk from Southern Cross. The role reports directly into the HR Manager and will act as the sole payroll person for the business, running a monthly pay.

Within Australia, you will be paying 100-150 staff per month, there is a rostering system in place and a data processing provider who process the pay upon the request of the payroll manager.

You would join a small and close knit head office function in a caring, results oriented and learning-focused environment.

Your objectives in this role will be:

  • To deliver the accurate and timely payroll for around 150 employees on a monthly basis.
  • To ensure all legislative and compliance aspects of payroll are followed.
  • To answer queries from employees regarding their pay.

Key responsibilities:

  • To ensure the payroll data is accurate and that correct payments are being made to employees in accordance with their contracts, EBAs, Awards and National Employment Standards.
  • Handle payment issues and act as the contact person for employees who have questions about their payments.
  • Gather the time records of employees and upload them into the payroll system.
  • Ensure that the time records are accurate, correct irregularities and inconsistencies and work with managers to ensure the time records are correct.
  • Handle administration related to compensation and benefits.
  • Handle the administration of the system relating to employees hiring.
  • Termination payments.
  • Superannuation payments.
  • Ensuring the correct payment of payroll taxes to the States’ Revenue Offices.
  • Ensuring the correct payment of PAYG to ATO
  • Ensuring correct Single Touch Payroll processes are followed.
  • Developing and helping implementing payroll and reporting systems.
  • Analysis of information and data.


  • Experience running an end to end payroll, either stand alone or as part of a team.
  • A good knowledge of payroll systems.
  • Good organisational skills, a proactive and direct attitude o problem solving.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring an ability to troubleshoot and fix issues.
