job description

Randstad are currently working with a number of state government authorities, who are in the midst of planning a number of large development projects within Melbourne suburbs. These projects are focussing on the development of various residential zones and commercial land acquisitions including planning for new urban areas which will in turn contribute to the growth of the suburbs small businesses and growth.

As a direct result of these major development projects, these state authorities are looking to bolster their highly regarded planning department by appointing a full time strategic planner to work on the development of these key deliverables on a permanent basis.

The Role

Your role in this dedicated and well supported team will be to deliver a full range of quality town planning services, with an emphasis on strategic planning and customer focus, encompassing the following tasks:

  • Processing and evaluating requests for complex amendments as required.
  • Conducting public consultation and mediation on major strategic planning matters.
  • Representing the Council’s interests in regard to planning panels.
  • Administering delegations in accordance with the powers conferred in the instrument of delegations.
  • Administering and enforcing the council's Planning Scheme, and associated legislation.
  • Providing expert advice and direction to clients about the development and use of sites within the municipality.
  • Day to day management of heritage-related matters, including coordination of the Council’s Heritage Assistance Fund.

Skills & Experience

This state authority prides itself on working with its team of professionals and the community to maintain a thriving suburb with continued development. Therefore, in order to take up this fantastic opportunity, you will need the following skills and experiences:

  • Qualifications in town planning, or other relevant discipline combined with successful experience in a town planning role, with an emphasis on strategic planning, ideally in a Local Government environment.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of planning in an urban environment with a strong knowledge of the Victoria Planning Provisions, State policy and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytical and investigative skills in a planning role.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated and successful community consultation experience
