job description

Overview:

  • 3 Project positions available within Health/Federal Government:
    • Full time - Senior Project Officer (EL1 in Sepsis) paying $63-75ph + super
    • Part time - Project Officer (APS 6 in Sepsis) paying $85-96k + 15.4% super
  • Full time - Project Officer (APS 6) to PwC division paying $85-96k + 15.4% super
  • Currently working from home, but the office is based in the Sydney CBD near Hyde Park (near many train stations)
  • These are 11 month non-ongoing roles, meaning fixed term directly with the client, where you will get sick/annual leave entitlement and higher (15.4% superannuation).
  • Starting from beginning of Aug 20 to end June 21 – with possible role extension or other internal opportunities.

The Commission:

  • The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care leads national improvements in healthcare safety and quality. It works in partnership with patients, carers, clinicians, federal/state/territory health systems, the private sector, healthcare organisations to achieve a safe, high-quality and sustainable health system.

The Program/Team:

  • Working in the Partnering with Consumers division, which is a small team of experienced staff (mainly form clinical backgrounds nursing or pharmacy) who are responsible for the NSQHS Standards 2, 5 & 8.
  • The part-time APS 6 and full-time EL1 role are working in the National Sepsis Program. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition which takes place when an infection you already have triggers a chain reaction throughout your body, with fatalities being approx. 5,000 per year in Australia.

Your Role:

The Senior Project Officer (EL1) will be responsible for:

  • project management tasks (planning, implementing tracking & reporting),
  • preparation of project documentation
  • policy development (reviewing and summarising literature/policy papers),
  • stakeholder management (across clinicians, bureaucrats, peak bodies, health services providers, GP’s, nurses),
  • committee secretariat,
  • facilitation of meetings,
  • undertaking research and analysis of information,
  • collaborating with other relevant programs within the Commission.

The other APS 6 Project Officer roles are similar, but are more procurement and contract mgmt. focussed, including:

  • designing and distributing RFQ’s,
  • reviewing tender evaluations,
  • undertaking literature reviews & drafting papers
  • project planning (the most effective methods to use),
  • publishing project findings (public consultation processes & medical audit chart)
  • committee secretariat (steering committee and clinical reference group)

Criteria:

The successful candidate must have:

  • A high level of knowledge of the Australian healthcare system
  • Experience of government policy/processes
  • A comprehensive understanding of the issues regarding safety & quality in health care
  • Highly developed research, strategic analysis and interpretation skills
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Highly developed communication skills including the ability to present, negotiate, influence and consult.
  • Highly developed and excellent project management skills and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Sound decision making skills, incorporating initiative and professional judgement
  • A professional, positive, strategic and solutions-focused approach to work
