We are seeking a dynamic Media & Communications Specialist to join our team and enhance our organisation's media presence. This role plays a crucial part in implementing communication policies and will focus on cultivating strong media relationships to elevate our Council's image.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive media strategies and communication plans.
- Serve as a key media advisor to Executive team.
- Act as the primary contact for media inquiries, collaborating with the Manager of Communications and Events to craft strategic responses.
- Navigate sensitive political matters and manage the media outreach associated with these topics.
- Research and produce high-quality content for internal and external publications, including press releases, reports, and briefing notes.
- Represent our organisation at events where media engagement is expected, managing inquiries and guiding our representatives as needed.
- Attend meetings to stay informed and contribute actively to discussions.
- Work collaboratively with the Media & Communications Team, including the Digital Media Advisor and Communications Advisor, on both proactive and reactive initiatives.
- Monitor our social media channels and report on engagement metrics.
- Uphold our organisation’s commitment to ethical standards as outlined in the Fraud and Corruption Prevention Policy.
- Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications:
- A background in relevant fields, coupled with substantial experience in media and communications.
- Proven ability in crafting communication pieces for government or executive audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for producing impactful media releases and briefing documents.
- A thorough understanding of media relations and the ability to prepare effective responses for various organisational levels.
- Strong analytical skills to research issues promptly and provide innovative communication solutions.
- An ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in delivering quality work under tight deadlines and minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with government processes and a well-established network of media contacts.
- Flexibility to work outside of standard hours, if necessary, to meet urgent media demands.
- A team player mentality, comfortable taking on both leadership and collaborative roles.
Desirable Attributes:
- Knowledge of government protocols, policies, and local government regulations.
- Experience with photography and videography, including proficiency in editing software (preferably Adobe Suite).
- A confident presence at public functions and events, representing our organisation with professionalism.
