ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines - the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.
The Senior Media Adviser reports to the Head of Communications & Media and is responsible for supporting the execution of ASC’s annual Communications and Media Strategy as well as day to day media activities. The role will work closely with the Government Relations Adviser to support activities such as Senate Estimates and other Government inquiries and the Social and Digital Media Adviser to design campaigns across multiple media platforms.
Role & Responsibilities
... - Produce high quality and timely media material with limited supervision.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the media.
- Deal with media enquiries.
- Write media releases, media reports and updates.
- Support media campaigns.
Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in journalism, media or a related field.
- A network of national media stakeholders, including journalists.
- Experience in a similar role, with a background as a working journalist or political media adviser.
- The ability to understand what is newsworthy and able to garner media attention.
- The ability to produce accurate, timely, high quality media releases, op-eds and other media-centric material.
- The ability to write media reports which are suitable for release to Senior Managers.
- Experience producing material for a wide range of media sources (eg. Print, video, digital etc.).
- Familiarity with social and digital media.
- Demonstrated insight and familiarity with the media industry.

This role requires Australian citizenship, a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
