Randstad are proud to partner with the Queensland State Government and are currently recruiting for Laboratory Technician roles.

The department currently has a vacancy for a Senior Laboratory and Field Technician in their Brisbane south location. The initial contract duration is until 30th June 2021 with the possibility to extend.

The purpose of this role is to be involved in the coordination and management of a team of technical and support staff to ensure that field and laboratory research activities are undertaken in an effective and efficient manner and the program is supplied with general laboratory, diagnostic and insect colony maintenance services.

Key Duties:

  • Work with the team of scientists, technical and support staff undertaking field experiments and laboratory research into innovative methods for the detection, identification and eradication
  • Undertake and supervise laboratory and/or field based science activities, including the identification of research sites, application of chemical treatments, the collection of data and/or specimens and laboratory and data management processes.
  • Lead the organisation of specific field and/or laboratory projects and activities, including staff co-ordination, acquisition and maintenance of scientific equipment and materials and the collection and management of scientific data
  • Manage relevant administrative and compliance aspects of laboratory and/or field research activities including WHS, SOPs, SDS, chemical stores and audits.
  • Record, collect and assist with the interpretation and analysis of experimental and observational data. Contribute to the compilation of scientific and technical reports and assist with the preparation of scientific papers.

The successful Candidate will:

  • Associate Diploma in Biological Science from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent academic qualifications, or experience that demonstrates equivalent competencies.
  • Experience in detecting and monitoring spread of invasive organisms and the formulation of appropriate protocols and plans
  • Experience in the use of GIS/mapping tools and software to support field-based research activities.
  • Experience in invertebrate diagnostics, potentially including the application of molecular techniques and relevant analytical methods/software.

It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team's objectives of ensuring service delivery exceeds expectations.
