The Senior Communications Advisor is responsible for planning, preparing and implementing effective, innovative internal and external communications and stakeholder engagement plans and strategies for a range of audiences, across a variety of channels.

The Senior Communications Advisor role will also:
  • Manage internal and external communication materials including developing and monitoring project plans, coordinating resources and monitoring budgets to ensure communication milestones are met and consistent, high quality outcomes are achieved and evaluated.
  • Provide operational support to the business in implementing communications, events and marketing activities and developing communication tools, policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure that the business complies with whole-of-government communications strategies, including branding, advertising, and online presence.
  • Provide expert guidance to the corporate communications unit and to the business in developing communications strategies and activities across a range of channels and for a variety of audiences.
  • Lead and manage the development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive communications strategies covering a wide range of stakeholder groups.
  • Act as key advisor for internal stakeholders on preparation of communication strategies to support major reform programs in the office and wider department.
  • Develop and implement innovative strategies to drive culture change and stakeholder engagement across the office and the department and embed the department’s values.
  • Manage key internal communication channels including the intranet site, publications, staff briefings and marketing initiatives, develop new communications channels where appropriate and evaluate the effectiveness of different communications channels for different purposes.
  • Establish strong working relationships with senior leaders and partner with internal business leaders to develop communication strategies and materials required for major projects
Key challenges:
  • Optimising the frequency and quality of internal and external communications in order to improve stakeholder engagement levels.
  • Exercising judgement in a context of rapidly changing priorities and conflicting perspectives.
  • Making balanced decisions in a wider context assessing full implications for the wider organisation, understanding and mitigating risk, and identifying trends and their potential impact on internal and external stakeholders.
To be successful in this role you would have been working within the public sector previously and would have both internal and external communications background. This role is a grade 9/10.
