Randstad are currently recruiting on behalf of our client based in the heart of Brisbane CBD for a Senior Cloud Specialist

This is an ongoing permanent position with a well known Government department. Flexible working arrangements and benefits apply.


As a Cloud Specialist, your role is to provide specialist technical system support and advice to stakeholders, including customers, business partners and internal staff. You will require a solid understanding of cloud and virtual computing concepts, experience designing, deploying and operating virtualisation infrastructure hardware and software, and knowledge and experience among a few of: VMware Platforms, Microsoft Azure Stack/Pack, AWS, Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) and OpenStack.

As Cloud Specialist, you will:

  • Provide system administration services and advice to external and internal customers within agreed client service levels whilst helping maintain the businesses viability and cost competitiveness.
  • Identify and implement improvements and risk management by understanding customer business drivers and assist in the reporting, assessment, analysis and recommendations for customer infrastructure environments.
  • Assist in responding to tenders and opportunities and assemble presentable solutions and proposals to seniors and potential customers.
  • Provide product presentation demonstrations to enhance the organisations Cloud offerings and present solutions to meet the customer's needs through workshops and other activities
  • With guidance, be the lead implementer on projects undertaken by the team, including the on-boarding of customers, new architecture solutions research into the applicability of new and emerging technologies, and assist developing cloud cost models and product collateral to help ensure the organisations ICT’s objectives are met.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for improvement in management infrastructure, tools and procedures, and participate in agreed improvement activities and risk treatment strategies as mentored by team seniors.

About you:

The successful candidate will need to possess strong VMware vSphere administration skills. The ideal candidate will also have the following:

  • vCloud Director skills are desirable
  • Service Provider experience is desirable
  • vROPS, vRB, vCO or Cloud Automation experience would be highly regarded
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure (Pack, Stack or Public), OracleVM or AWS is desirable but not essential
  • Must be prepared to participate in a paid oncall roster and paid scheduled overtime.
