The role of Sales Specialist is a business development position and a consultative subject matter expert (SME). The key purpose of the role is to develop and drive sales opportunities both through direct targeting of potential new clients. A focus on new accounts and working with the national Sales team to assist to drive sales within their portfolios.

This role demands a high-energy and targeted approach to create a solid pipeline of opportunities across specified industry sectors, while also acquiring new business opportunities for the sales executives to successfully develop their own opportunity pipelines in those accounts for which they are responsible. Given the competitive nature of the background checking industry, this role requires an aggressive Sales Specialist, comfortable with directly driving new business while working with the wider Sales team and client relationship owners to achieve quarterly sales targets. Meeting aggressive quarterly revenue and product targets will be a major and highly visible KPI of this role.

This role requires a highly driven and self-motivated Sales Specialist with a track record of selling human resource services into key decision makers within substantial corporations, who is also experienced in engaging with sales to focus their activity and provide subject matter expertise as required.

The overarching purpose of the role is to develop a high level of market awareness of the value proposition and identify the various buying influences and industry issues facing the customer’s organisation and to be able to develop and package solutions.

The key drivers are opportunity identification and qualification, high level presentations, days in sales cycle, business wins, consequent revenue growth and customer satisfaction.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • 7+ years’ business experience in a similar role selling human resource services into the corporate sector such as recruitment, training, psychological assessment or outplacement.
  • Proven consultative sales experience, with a track record of being able to move between solution development to sales closure.
  • Have a highly influential HR network that has the potential to deliver profitable new business.
  • Commercially astute with significant commercial business experience and knowledge.
  • Proven ability to succeed in a culture where success is paramount.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Well-developed organisation and task coordination skills.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to relate to and influence key decision makers.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to own sales opportunities and motivate sales executives in a desired direction to achieve positive outcomes.

Role specification:

  • Identify major sales target opportunities across accounts.
  • Develop and enact a sales strategy for each of the targets including identifying key decision makers, the current service provider (if any) and the best tactical approach to present to them.
  • Directly approach sales targets and secure meetings to present the solution.
  • Develop presentations and sales enablement tools.
  • Through analysis and customer insights, develop proposals to provide the potential client with an understanding of the value of service offered over and above their current supplier or, in the case where they currently do not use a verification service, the clear benefits in doing so.
  • Work with the Sales team across Enterprise, Major and Government clients to identify opportunities to mutually promote and deliver value propositions, which meet the needs of the customer.
  • Attend relevant sales calls with the Sales team and act as the SME or consultant throughout the sales process.
  • Working in conjunction with the Head of Client Solutions, produce a quarterly sales plan incorporating revenue growth tactics and specific 30/60/90 day actions.
  • Assist with tender responses and develop relevant sections for tenders/proposals.
  • Attend and present at customer meetings.
