An exciting role as a Project Manager, Capital Works has become available. The position is based in a fast growing team within the Victorian State Government.

The team has a wide range of experience and skills, such as design and architecture specialists, stakeholder management experts and building/construction professionals. Success in the role will require a passionate and motivated individual. The department’s vision is based around revolutionising how schools are built.

The Project Manager will oversee multiple capital works projects such as building extensions, refurbishments or Greenfield projects. To be successful in the role as a Project Manager strong communication skills are required as well as the ability to solve problems and work under pressure. The department has specialised consultancies to manage the daily workload, therefore the Project Manager will be required to manage the expectations of all involved stakeholders to meet deadlines and project budget.

Other key areas of responsibility include, but not limited are:

  • Development of detailed projects plans outlining tasks and milestones to be completed
  • Monitoring of project outcomes and preparing reports and progress
  • Preparation of briefs and memos in relation to project matters
  • Adhering to Victorian Government procurement processes in the delivery of projects
  • Reviewing and recommending invoices for payment against project milestones
  • Liaise with stakeholders and consultancies to optimise the delivery of the projects


We are seeking applicants with a specific skillset and working experience, to include:

  • Demonstrated experience of project managing capital works across a varied asset portfolio
  • Excellent written reporting skills - the ability to independently put together complex reporting documents relating to project budget, delivery etc.
  • The ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders with varying degrees of technical understanding
  • High-level verbal communication skills and ability to liaise with clients
  • A tertiary qualification in architecture, project management OR similar coupled with relevant industry experience
  • Work experience within Victorian government, Local councils, Statutory bodies OR consultancies
