job description

Based in South Sydney, a local council is looking to engage a Planning Officer with experience in statutory planning to assist with processing development assessment applications.

The ideal candidate will have experience in local government, building or planning organisations and current knowledge of building and town planning practices, especially in local government.

Responsibilities

  • Assess a range of development assessment applications
  • Carry out site inspection when necessary
  • Prepare associated reports as required
  • Ensure that all legislative and statutory requirements are correct
  • Ensure that development applications are processed accordingly
  • Provide advice and information to relevant stakeholders
  • Assist in the implementation of Council’s statutory planning controls
  • Liaise with the relevant Government Departments on planning matters

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with relevant stakeholders
  • Skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team
  • Ability to work co-operatively with other Departments
  • Ability to present accurate, clear, concise and timely reports
  • Ability to implement new planning concepts and procedures
  • Possess good negotiation and conflict resolution skills
