Are you an experienced Payroll Coordinator/ Team Leader with strong attention to detail and expertise in Chris21 / iChris? We have an exciting opportunity to join a Local Council on a 3-month contract in a dynamic and supportive team environment.
As the Payroll Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, and providing expert advice on payroll policies, industrial instruments, and statutory requirements. You will play a key role in payroll administration, reporting, and system improvements, working closely with HR and finance teams.
Coordinate and process fortnightly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with EA/Award conditions.
Provide payroll-related advice to employees, managers, and senior leadership.
Manage payroll reconciliations, superannuation payments, and statutory reporting (ATO, ABS, Centrelink, Services Australia).
Ensure accurate interpretation and application of complex EA/Award conditions.
Process terminations, long service leave transfers, and parental leave payments.
Maintain payroll systems, including Chris21 / iChris and time and attendance modules.
Oversee year-end payroll functions, including tax updates and EA rate adjustments.
Collaborate with IT to implement payroll system upgrades and resolve system-related issues.
Lead and support payroll team members, ensuring high levels of service and compliance.
Strong experience using Chris21 / iChris in a payroll capacity (mandatory).
Expertise in complex EA/Award interpretation (preferred / highly regarded).
Previous local council payroll experience (preferred / highly regarded).
Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to communicate payroll matters effectively.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Tertiary qualifications in payroll, accounting, HR, or a related field are desirable.
