Communications Manager to lead, motivate and develop a proactive team of Communications Professionals and drive Communications and Engagement, Media Relations and Brand Identity. You don't see yourself as a manager but a colleague that inspires and guides your team. You really love what you do, you understand the mechanisms of Government and have a strong desire to work and engage with people on a daily basis to promote and advance the interests of the organisation and the community it serves.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Regulate and enhance corporate standards for public relations, marketing, communications and engagement
  • Oversee the provision of high quality communications and engagement services including the products and activities associated with: publication support; web content development support, and management of digital assets; event management support; coordination of corporate advertising; public relations; marketing and graphic design
  • Manage the development and implementation of communications policies and plans for both internal and external communications
  • Maximise opportunities to promote the image of the organisation as a responsible and trusted manager of the local area environment and champion of the community’s vision
  • Partner closely with key stakeholders to actively foster positive internal and external relationships
  • Provide strategic and tactical advice to management and staff in relation to potential and actual issues, minimising adverse impacts and leveraging opportunities as appropriate
  • Manage and develop a strong and consistent corporate identity
  • Provide specialist communications advice to the Executives
  • Provide high level advice on the design and implementation of major community consultation and engagement exercises and engagement strategies generally
  • Develop internal and external policies, procedures and guidelines in support of the aims of the Communications and Engagement team

Key Requirements:

  • Ability to engage, lead and inspire others, to drive change and achieve outcomes for the benefit of the organisation and community
  • Tertiary qualifications in public relations, marketing, communications or related fields
  • Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in related roles including managing or coordinating a function or unit of an organisation dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to develop policies, strategic plans, frameworks, systems and tools for the areas of corporate communications, media and community engagement
  • Ability to lead and manage professional staff and facilitate the work of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Highly developed communication skills including excellent written, verbal, presentation and negotiation skills using a variety of mediums and consultation methods
  • Well developed organisational, time management and project management skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills complemented by creative and innovative thinking
  • Highly developed networking and problem solving skills underpinned by a strong appreciation of political and consultative environments
  • Extensive experience with desktop publishing, website management, electronic marketing and media networking and liaison
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations
  • Experience working in or closely with government, local government, any elected officials, or similar environment
  • A strong desire to work and engage with people on a daily basis to promote and advance the interests of the organisation and it's practices
  • A positive, professional and co-operative approach to leading and managing staff and to working with others
