job description

Randstad is seeking an experienced Linux Administrator to help support and further develop systems based on Linux, Oracle VM and Intel Hardware. Tasks will include providing architecture and design recommendations, as well as troubleshooting and resolving production issues across the supporting infrastructure.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide expertise in administering and troubleshooting solutions on Oracle Linux, Oracle VM Server and Intel Hardware.
  • Build, administer and troubleshoot solutions with Packaged and Open Source software such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, Splunk, Git, OpenLDAP, BIND, Ganglia, Apache.
  • Develop, maintain, automate and perform operational procedures and ensure operational tasks are performed reliably and consistently to reduce the risk of unplanned outages.
  • Create and update documentation, including design, operational, build, handover or any other documentation required by the project or requested by the line manager.
  • Provide plain language advice on complex technical issues to non-technical audiences to enable informed business decisions/outcomes and service level improvements.
  • Resolve technical problems and issues assigned in a timely manner, whilst providing timely and appropriate feedback about status and escalate critical issues to line manager.
  • Liaise with vendor support engineers for hardware related issues as and when required.

  • Establish collaborative and influential relationships with stakeholders, customers and colleagues, to ensure easy and effective achievement of team / project / business goals.

Essential requirements:

  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience in the administration of Redhat based LINUX systems and Oracle VM.
  • Extensive experience with administration, automation, scripting and backups and demonstrated experience with tools such as CFEngine, OpenLDAP, BIND, Ganglia, Apache, Splunk.
  • Demonstrated ability to product quality documentation including design, operational, build and handover documentation.
  • Highly developed analytical skills including the ability to analyse and interpret highly complex information from numerous sources.
  • Superior organisational skills and experience working in a high volume and demanding professional environment.
