Key duties and responsibilities
- Design dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas) for business applications and reporting solutions that support forecasting, trend analysis, and performance metrics.
- Ensure data models align with Microsoft best practices, particularly within Power BI and SQL Server environments.
- Collaborate with data engineers, software developers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data models.
- Maintain metadata repositories and data dictionaries in line with data and application governance standards.
- Optimise model performance for large-scale datasets and complex queries or application data access requirements.
- Contribute to the development of semantic models in Power BI.
- Documenting data models, definitions and ETL data mapping rules.
- Following the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology for software development and contributing to Agile ceremonies.
- Adhering to coding best practices and code quality standards including version control, code documentation, and testing.
Essential criteria
- Proven experience in dimensional modelling and analytical modelling in enterprise environments..
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Data Services and Power BI.
- Deep understanding of data warehousing principles, ETL processes, and BI architecture.
- Ability to communicate complex data concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to work effectively with diverse and geographically dispersed teams.
Desirable criteria
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, SQL Server and emerging data tools in the Microsoft ecosystem.
- Prior experience in federal government data domains.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering).
