Randstad are proud to partner with the Queensland State Government and are currently recruiting for Laboratory Technician roles.

The department currently has a vacancy for a Laboratory Technician (Genetics) in their Brisbane south location. The initial contract duration is until 30th June 2021 with the possibility to extend.

In this role you will be involved in supporting the genetics laboratory and research functions by preparing, processing and conducting basic analysis of the insect samples for genetic analysis, and supporting other team members with general laboratory-based tasks.

Key Duties:

  • Perform sample preparation and regular molecular tests according to standard operating procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining genetic analysis team instruments and equipment at a high standard of working order
  • Perform all work according to the quality assurance requirements of the Principal Molecular Biologist and relevant standards set by the Biosecurity Science Laboratory
  • Work effectively as a member of a team, maintain a high standard of individual work and provide assistance to other areas of the genetic analysis team at the request of the Principal Molecular Biologist
  • When required, conduct diagnostic, monitoring and research activities under the guidance of the Principal Molecular Biologist or Principal Senior Scientist
  • Clearly and effectively communicate technical information with colleagues and supervisors
  • General cleaning, laboratory maintenance and other science support tasks as directed.

The successful Candidate will:

  • Associate Diploma in Biological Science from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent academic qualifications, or experience that demonstrates equivalent competencies.
  • Experience in identifying biological specimens via morphological and/or molecular Methods
  • Experience in genetic processes relating to insects or other organisms

It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team's objectives of ensuring service delivery exceeds expectations.
