Randstad is currently working with a well-known organisation in Brisbane to find a Java Developer to join a high-functioning and well performing team. This is for an initial 12 month fixed term contract with a strong chance of extension.

The primary function of the position is to provide a high level of development and support for Business Process Digitisation (BPD) initiatives. This position provides technical expertise in the areas of analysis and development, specialising in the BPD domain. The position will frequently be a major link between ITS and the client. Solid communication skills are essential in order to ensure customer satisfaction and provide suitable explanations of highly technical matters to clients and in order to provide training and direction to more junior staff.

What does the role entail?

Design, implementation, installation and maintenance of information systems and infrastructure to support business process management

Undertake design and development in support of significant BPD projects with regard to the professional qualifications and experience of the position

Consult on the technical aspects of BPM to Information Technology Services clients Consult to clients and represent Information Technology Services on matters not directly related to technical issues, such as, staff selection and other committees

Investigate, evaluate and report on new equipment, systems, processes and standards

Ensure client satisfaction through the provision of efficient work practices and fostering positive client relationships

Assist team members in developing their skill set through mentoring

Undertake administrative tasks including (but not limited to) preparation of business cases, preparation of plans (in support of technical tasks), submission of change requests, management of work requests and completion of timesheets

An employee may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the classification and within the limits of their skill, competence and training

What you will need:

Essential

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in IT or related field and significant relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
  • Strong skills and extensive experience in analysis, design, development and maintenance of corporate systems, multi-user systems or applications.
  • Knowledge and experience in object oriented programming practices.
  • Experience in programming in Java, HTML5 and (X)HTML, JavaScript and CSS.
  • Good knowledge and experience designing and implementing processes using Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN2).
  • Knowledge and skills in data modelling techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively mentor others and to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues to achieve positive outcomes .
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving skills with the ability to perform research or liaise with others to develop solutions for more difficult problems.
  • Organised and methodical approach to tasks.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work to objectives with limited guidance, taking responsibility for the running and outcome of assigned activities — either alone or as a member of a small team.

Highly Desirable

Experience with DevOps practices and associated tools, such as: containerisation, automated testing, continuous integration, continuous delivery, logging and monitoring.

Knowledge and experience with Agile software development, including SCRUM.

Experience with development and operations in platform environments such as API Gateways, ESBs or BPD platforms.

Technologies and Tools include:

  • Integration development technologies such as SOAP and RESTful web services, XML, Groovy, Node.js, JavaScript frameworks, such as AngularJS
  • JSON and XQuery, XSLT, XSD, etc.
  • Database development (including MySQL, Oracle or MS SQL Server)
  • Web servers and web proxy servers such as Nginx and ApacheJava EE applications server, e.g. Tomcat
  • Linux Experience in automated testing including API testing
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) IaaS and PaaS solutions, specifically S3, Cloudfront, CloudWatch, Elastic Beanstalk, RDS and EC2.
