We are currently seeking an Investigations Officer to work for one of our clients within the Federal Government. You will be responsible for handling complaints and conducting investigations under the Privacy Act 1988 and Freedom of Information Act 1982.

To be successful for this role, you will have experience working in a regulator’s office. Alternatively, you will possess a Law Degree and be knowledgeable in complaints, investigations or alternative dispute resolution. Experience in a government department is highly desirable.

You must be an Australian Citizen or have Permanent Residency in order to be successful for this role.

The Role:

This role involves supporting a Dispute Resolution Branch with wide administrative duties. Some of the duties for this role will include:

• Managing a large caseload of privacy complaints and investigations

  • Making administrative decisions under the Privacy Act
  • Conducting conciliation conferences and resolving privacy disputes between complaint parties
  • Providing recommendations to senior management about how privacy issues can best be addressed in line with the companies Privacy Regulatory Action Policy


The Candidate:

You as the candidate will have a background in complaints, investigations or alternative dispute resolution. You will have experience working in a regulator’s office or possess a Law Degree. To be successful for this role, you will possess the following skillset:

• Excellent communication and dispute resolution skills

  • Possess excellent analytical ability, and an ability to apply complex legislative and policy frameworks to a dispute
  • Be experienced in working with legislation, case law, precedent and policy
  • Possess ability to converse with diverse range of people, including members of community and government agencies
  • Be able to work autonomously in a fast paced and flexible team environment
  • Be resilient and able to work under pressure
