Provide leadership, coaching and expert advice to the Projects Team, directly supporting portfolio and study phases of Technology Projects and key stakeholders on all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) matters.

To partner with line management and provide advice and coaching so that risks with HSE impacts are effectively managed through Identification, Studies, Definition and Execution phases of Technology Projects.

This will include supporting analysis of HSE performance data to identify improvement opportunities, management of HSE related risks, and supporting project and study managers in the development of Technology Projects.

The role will focus on HSE prevention through design in all phases of the Project Management Framework and to provide support to the Manager.

Core Accountabilities

  • Be accountable for the delivery of mandated HSE support and service for allocated portfolio of Project Studies.
  • Partner with Project/Studies Teams to support the identification of relevant HSE Risks for Projects through quality and effective HSE risk assessments.
  • Provide HSE input to the design and establishment of HSE standards, procedures and systems for Capital Projects within the Minerals Australia Projects Framework and Internal Standard.
  • Drive HSE in design processes through all phases of project development.
  • Undertaking analytics activities for HSE data including benchmarking, lessons learnt and developing key performance metrics for the design and development of new processing and non-processing facilities.
  • Delivery of HSEC study chapter requirements to enable safe and sustainable gating of capital projects.
  • Support line management in building an understanding of, and compliance with, relevant HSE and legal requirements.
  • Coaching Field Leadership activities in studies phases to further enhance a positive HSE leadership culture.
  • Facilitate and coach high quality HSE investigations.
  • Management of HSE Systems and data quality control related to asset projects.
  • Identify and embed required HSE resourcing requirements in project plans to enable efficient and effective project delivery.
  • Provide leadership, support and technical guidance to Project teams.
  • Develop and deliver HSE content for upskilling of key personnel.
  • Support legislative compliance and reporting for HSE execution, including external and regulatory reporting.
  • Engages with regulatory and industry bodies on HSE issues impacting the project.
  • Provide expert advice and leadership on all issues relating to HSE.
  • Facilitate the communication between workgroups to ensure consistency in systems, processes, procedures and goals.
  • Manage, control, monitor and participate in the execution of work
  • Participate in any other projects or key tasks as directed by line manager or delegate.
  • Coordinate field-based work to meet HSE licensing requirements.
  • Strong understanding of databases and database processes with the ability to identify opportunities to automate HSE processes and reporting.


  • Tertiary degree in relevant field (e.g. health, safety, environment, engineering, science, risk, other)

Experience & Technical Competencies

  • Typically minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience (Capital Projects).
  • Demonstrated ability to reliably deliver team results and meet deadlines.
  • Leading change initiatives under difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to engage and work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Influence diverse teams.
  • Strong acumen for HSE data analytics and business intelligence platforms
  • Experience in automation, infrastructure or technology projects would be desirable, but not essential.
  • Understanding of South Australian HSE legislation.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory HSE policies and procedures and their implementation in the mining sector.
  • Experience in managing contractors and deliverables to a schedule and budget.


  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Interstate and/or Intrastate travel may be required from time to time
