job description

Do you have a passion for helping people and want to build your hands on skills within the community? We are currently recruiting for a Homeless Support Worker/Client Service Officer to join a dynamic new team supporting people in need across our city.

Role description

This is a relationship based role which will provide intervention, housing assistance and support to people experiencing homelessness. You will be part of a new team going on outreach visits and speaking with people to access needs and provide urgent assistance.

  • No two days are the same - your time will be spent out in the field speaking with clients and community, building relationships with other services (Health and Care) and in office assisting with housing applications and other relevant supporting activities for clients.
  • This will be a 35 hour week role with varied hours.
  • At all times you work with a partner and often as part of a larger team so you will always be supported and encouraged.

The ideal person would likely come from a social work, housing or youth work background and will have experience working with the homeless community. That being said, most importantly we are looking for the right character and training will be provided. If you are composed, adaptable, care about helping others, are confident speaking to a very wide range of people, have great listening and communication skills and want to learn - this is great opportunity. If you have broader experience working with homeless clients beyond these fields we are also very happy to hear from you as training is provided.

Must haves:

  • Strong organisation skills, be a team player, adaptable and able to work flexible hours
  • Confident communication - ability to connect with clients bringing your life experience and skills to find innovative ways to assist
  • Provide advice, information and referral on street outreach to effectively match client needs
  • Ability to use MS Office, Outlook and databases to complete housing applications and other essential requests

On offer

  • 35 hour a week contract until end of November with possibility to extend
  • $55 p/h + super
  • Excellent training and support
  • Inner City Location

This is a great opportunity to build on your Outreach skills! We do not expect this position to be available for long so if you are interested please apply now. Alternatively contact Tristan.Walker@Randstad.com.au for a confidential chat or more information.
