This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Environmental Scientist to join a State Government Department on a long contract (5 months). This is a crucial role within the team and we are looking for a candidate to start ASAP.

Candidates should have a solid understanding of the mining and heavy earth industry, especially focused within closure and rehabilitation within this industry.

Duties:

  • The technical review of mine and quarry documents
  • Review and assess environmental and rehabilitation plans with a focus on the impact that mining has on the environment
  • Advise on environmental issues
  • Ad hoc project work essential to the department, such as reviewing how the gaseous forms of toxic metals can cause a risk to human health and the environment

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or similar
  • An understanding of Earth resources legislation and policy is desired
  • A solid understanding of the mining and heavy earth industry - focusing on closure and rehabilitation
  • Strong analytical skills with a very high attention to detail
