This Federal Government Agency is seeking a motivated and strategic EL1 Assistant Director, Workforce, to join their HR team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organisation’s workforce, on a 12-month non-ongoing basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to lead workforce planning, capability development, and strategic HR initiatives that align with the agency’s broader objectives.
Your new role
As the Assistant Director, Workforce, you will partner with senior leaders and teams across the organisation to implement innovative workforce solutions that ensure the agency’s workforce is highly skilled, engaged, and well-positioned to meet future challenges. You will be responsible for developing workforce strategies, managing complex projects, and providing expert advice on key workforce issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of workforce strategies that support the organisation’s goals and address current and future workforce needs.
- Manage workforce planning, talent management, and capability development programs to ensure a diverse and high-performing workforce.
- Develop and implement frameworks for workforce analytics and reporting to provide insights that drive informed decision-making.
- Lead and mentor a team of HR professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
Key Capabilities:
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and developing high-performing HR teams.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and provide expert advice at all levels.
- Strong understanding of APS HR policies, employment legislation, and public sector frameworks.
- Ability to think strategically and solve complex workforce issues in a rapidly evolving environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, or a related field are highly desirable.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in senior HR roles, preferably within the public sector.
- Experience in leading strategic workforce planning and capability development projects.
- Knowledge of APS workforce frameworks and legislative requirements is an advantage.
What you'll need to succeed
To be eligible for this position you will need to be an Australian Citizen, hold a Federal Government Security Clearance (Baseline, NV1 or NV2) or be willing to obtain one
Candidates who are permanently employed in the APS are encouraged to apply as a section 26, labour hire, or NGO. Also, candidates who are currently working in a private sector with strong transferable skills, are highly encouraged to apply.
