    Your new role:

    Purpose of position: To support delivery of the Commission’s work in applying policy and regulatory functions to ensure best practice, quality assurance and continuous improvement is implemented into decision making processes, learnings are translated into regulation and policy development, and operational areas are supported to promote quality.

    As a section of the Regulatory Policy and Intelligence Group, the Regulatory Strategy section contributes to the The Commission's strategic purpose is to protect and enhance the safety, health, well-being and quality of life of people by managing policy reform processes and delivering projects related to regulatory strategy (including shaping legislative change).

    The Section’s approach to understanding effective regulation is evidence and risk-based, strategic, coordinated and in line with best practice.

    Your Key Responsibilities:

    Support the broader regulatory reform agenda. This includes contribution to legislative drafting

    instructions and explanatory material.

    Provide input into papers and advice on regulatory design in accordance with policy decisions and the implications of the changes for the Commission.

    Supporting a complex and dynamic workload of policy development, legislative change and regulatory reform projects.

    Support and directly contribute to the research and drafting of high-level communications, including briefing material, for a range of audiences about complex legal, policy and procedural topics.

    Engaging effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to support the Commission’s

    business and vision and contribute to the Section’s strategic direction and continuous improvement activities

    Assist with budgetary costings work.

    Work in a virtual environment in a team that works in locations across Australia

    Monitor and drive the implementation of improvements relating to regulatory functions

    Identify and respond appropriately to risk.

    To be successful in the role requires:

    The ability to understand and interpret legislation, including what it means in operational terms for the Commission.

    Proven ability to work independently and take responsibility for managing own performance and that of the team to achieve results.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills, which leverage off strong analytic and problem

    solving skills including the capacity to provide evidence based advice.

    Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

    Leadership and people management skills, and the ability to build capability through supporting staff in a changing environment.


    Essential Requirements:

    Ability to use judgement and to analyse complex information to understand and apply legislation

    Expert knowledge and understanding of the development of sound policy and guidance

    Demonstrated experience in leading projects

    Excellent ability to use clear and influential communication skills to develop productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
