We have a great position available as Early Childhood Teacher at a school in a remote community in the Katherine region. The school is a P to year 12 school. The team is a vibrant, dynamic team that consists of 14 teachers.

Qualified Primary School Teachers who are willing to follow a part time Early Childhood course are more than welcome to apply as well!

The pre-school class has 15 students enrolled and the school usually gets between 8 – 12 each day. They are 4 years old and the program runs from 8:30 am to 12pm. After that time you have a significant amount of time off for planning and setting up the space and also undertakes some intervention work with other students (this is often organised according to need and the teachers/strengths and interests).

Enrolment in a part time Early Childhood course is required if you are a qualified teacher but do not have a Early Childhood qualification. You will be doing this course part time.

The school has a pre-school advisor based in our regional office who comes out for a couple of weeks each term, plus does fortnightly Skype meetings with you. The current pre-school teacher is moving to another role in the school so will be available for a complete handover as well.

Who are we looking for?

  • you must be a qualified Early Childhood Teacher OR a qualified Teacher willing to follow a part time course in Early Childhood
  • You must have a valid teachers registration with NTRB or able to obtain one
  • You must have a valid OCHRE card with SAFE NT or able to obtain one
  • Experience in Early Childhood is preferred, experience in teaching is a must
  • Experience in an indigenous community is preferred but not a must
  • You must be confident in working and living in a very remote community
