Our client is a market leader in brands and products in the mobile lifestyle industry. Their clients are the biggest retail giants in Australia and are growing at a fantastic rate. With some internal changes this newly create role is so important for their future and taking their business to the next level. They are recruiting for a DC Operations Manager to manage an established team with respect and a new fresh pair of eyes.

The role
The DC Operation’s function is focused on optimising costs through process efficiency around goods flow. The holder of this position is responsible for all inventory movement in the business and shares responsibilities for key business metrics with other internal managers. Central to the task will be the management of system and physical processes to optimise efficiency in a way that adds to customer value and experience but drives down cost. As an internal manager you will be expected to attend various regular and ad-hoc meetings and take responsibility for actions that fall within your area of influence within the business. A key part of the role is the leadership and management of the distribution centre team, comprising both Full Time and Casual team members ensuring a safe and efficient workplace at all times.


  • The distribution centre team including all stock movements in and out regardless of their source or destination.
  • Ensuring stock purchases are processed quickly and accurately into the system in relation to all managed locations, including remote and overseas warehouses or 3PL facilities.
  • Ensuring that stock returns are processed quickly and accurately into the system based on system driven business rules.
  • Ensuring that customer dispatches are managed within expectations.
  • Management of consignment stock
    • Force stock held on customer premises
    • Vendor stock held on our premises
  • Work closely with IT to document and improve systems and processes within the business to ensure rules are defined, documented and enforced within the system in line with strategic direction set by the senior management team.
  • Work with the sales and product teams to manage forecasting of stock requirements by systemising the forecasting and reporting processes to ensure all possible business conditions are considered.
  • Assisting with the review of customer agreements as they relate to goods handling into and out of owned or managed facilities.
  • Timely and accurate processing of vendor returns in time with vendor expectations of frequency and documentation.
  • Timely and accurate processing of customer returns to ensure compliance with the company and customer policies.
  • Monitor freight costs in conjunction with the finance team.
  • Ensure OH&S compliance in all areas of the distribution centre, oversee companywide OH&S.
  • Co-ordinate all preventative and re-active maintenance tasks as required including but not limited to Conveyor, Forklift and other equipment, Alarms, A/C and Hot water systems.
  • Through volume forecasting and in conjunction with procurement ensure optimal labour cost and space management.
  • Manage and nurture relationship with key inbound and outbound freight providers.
  • Conduct tenders or RFQ’s in line with company expectations.

Experience required

  • Experience as a Logistics or Distribution Centre Manager in a medium sized wholesale distribution business
  • Experience with distribution automation including conveyor automation and check weigh
  • Ideally, but not essential, is an understanding and underlying interest in the broader consumer electronics market, including the emerging mobile lifestyle category including smartphones and tablet devices, and the emerging interrelationship between downloadable applications, services and peripheral devices
  • Understanding of the major relationships between manufacturers, retailers, operators and distributors within the Telco arena, and/or experience in national wholesale distribution of consumer or similar goods
  • Understanding the position which the company has carved in the industry, and the competitive strategic advantage that is required to continue for future success
  • Experience with tier one ERP systems, ideally MS Navision, or similar
